Edge node software licence
This licence applies to the KENAEZ edge node software, its installers, updater and watchdog (the Software), supplied by Echo Thirteen Capital Ltd, trading as KENAEZ (KENAEZ, we, us), including where the Software or its installer refers to Kenaez Ltd. By installing or using the Software, you accept this licence on behalf of your organisation. It sits alongside our terms of service; if they conflict, the terms of service prevail.
1. Licence
We grant your organisation a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the Software on hardware you control, solely to connect your cameras and other site equipment to your KENAEZ subscription, for as long as that subscription is active.
2. Restrictions
You must not:
- copy, modify, adapt or create derivative works of the Software, except as needed to install and back it up;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except to the extent the law allows despite this restriction;
- alter files within the signed release, or interfere with its signature or integrity checks;
- sell, rent, sublicense or distribute the Software, or use it to provide a service to third parties other than through KENAEZ.
3. Updates and integrity
Releases of the Software are signed offline. The Software verifies each new release against the keys of the release already installed, checks every file and refuses older versions before installing anything. Installing an update may be required to keep using the Service. On Windows, the Software restricts its install folder to the system and administrators and checks its installation each time it starts.
4. What the Software does with data
The Software processes video from your cameras locally on your hardware. It sends the following to the KENAEZ platform over an outbound, encrypted connection:
- events detected under your configuration, with a still image and, for warning and critical events, a short clip;
- live video, only while someone is viewing that camera;
- frames requested by scheduled patrols and camera health checks;
- the node's own health, performance and diagnostic information;
- remote access traffic, only where remote access has been switched on at the node itself.
If the connection is lost, events are queued on the node's own disk, with up to 2 GB of media, and sent when it returns. The Software does not open inbound ports on your network. How we handle this data is described in our privacy notice and data processing agreement.
5. Third-party components
The Software includes third-party components under their own licences, which take precedence for those components:
| Component | Licence |
|---|---|
| NanoDet-Plus detection model | Apache License 2.0 |
| RTMPose pose estimation model | Apache License 2.0 |
| ONNX Runtime | MIT License |
| FFmpeg | GNU LGPL 2.1 or later |
| NSSM (Windows service manager) | Public domain |
| Python | Python Software Foundation License |
Where an open-source licence gives you rights, such as the right to obtain source code for an LGPL component, nothing in this licence restricts them. To request source code or full notices, email [email protected].
6. Warranty
Except as set out in our terms of service, the Software is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that it will detect every event. Your statutory rights are not affected.
7. Liability
Our liability in connection with the Software is subject to the limitations in our terms of service.
8. Termination
This licence ends automatically when your subscription ends or if you breach it. When it ends, you must stop using and uninstall the Software. We may revoke a node's key at any time to stop it connecting to the Service.
9. Law
This licence is governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
